Dear Diet Diary,
The first day of diet is torture. Actually the first few days are. It takes some time for the body to adapt to the news. It is also a time of learning. During those first days you come to learn all that you have done wrong.
One thing that surprized me was the amount of food I would eat after my toddler. The bite here and another bite there of food I didn’t want to go to waste add up. I was eating a whole extra meal stretched over the course of day without even noticing. Now I understand why my grandmother used to refer to herself as a “garbage can”. She used to do the same thing with me and my brother.
Second thing I noticed is that I am thirsty. To say I don’t drink enough water is an understatement. I would usually drink two to three glasses a day and wouldn’t even notice because I was constantly chewing on something. I wouldn’t be until I was getting ready for bed at night that I would realize I didn’t drink almost anything that day. Today I am thirsty, thirsty, thirsty.
Week #1 Tally
Day 1: For breakfast I had two scrambled eggs and a cup of coffee. Today was supposed to be a no-carb day but I had some leftover couscous and roast duck salad from yesterday that I didn’t want to throw away so I had that for lunch. For dinner I had a cucumber and a few slices of smoked turkey ham. In the spirit of full disclosure I had three crackers during the day. Water: five 3dl glasses 🙂
Day 2: I had scrambled eggs again for breakfast and will probably continue to have them every day. The only difference was I added a little chopped smoked turkey ham. After breakfast friends came over for coffee and I accidentally had a cookie. It is going to be a struggle reprogramming myself not to eat everything in front of me. For lunch I made chicken soup and later I had a mixed veggie salad. Water: five 3dl glasses 🙂
Day 3: I started the day with scrambled eggs but then it all went downhill. We had french fries (regular and sweet potato) and mixed veggy salad for lunch and grilled cheese and ham sandwiches for dinner. Not exactly diet food. 🙁 But they were yummy 🙂 Water: five 3dl glasses 🙂
Day 4: Today I did better. Had scrambled eggs for breakfast and been soup for lunch. Afternoon we went to visit my sister-in-law for her birthday and I had a little piece of cake. I had to. It would have been rude not to. It is important to always have a good excuse 🙂 For dinner I had a wiener schnitzel and 3/4 of an apple, I split it with the baby. Water: three 3dl glasses 🙁 I never drink enough when I’m away from home.
Day 5: The same breakfast and then 3 cookies for snack. I really need to control myself better or this diet is not going to work. For lunch I had a leftover wiener schnitzel from yesterday evening and for dinner some cheese and an apple. Water: five 3dl glasses
Day 6: Eggs and coffee for breakfast. This morning I made a salad from a head of lettuce, a cucumber, a green pepper and a few cherry tomatoes. This will be my lunch and dinner today. Water: four 3dl glasses so far
Start weight: 70 kg
End weight: 68 kg
Result: -2 kg 🙂
I’m cutting it short this week and doing a six-day diet review. I am planning to post a review every seven days on Wednesday from now on.
